TOP COW OCTOBER 2005 SOLICITATIONS

PAGE 1

INTRO

My daughter, Eden, was born two weeks ago. She's sweet. But, I haven't slept in daze. Yes, DAZE. In my haze I've thought about my new Top Cow title V.I.C.E.-Violent Incident Control Enforcement-and decided. My daughter can't read this book until she's at least…I don't know…50? Fifty-five years old?

Sex. Addiction. Megalomania. Fetishism. And those are the heroes. When Top Cow President Matt Hawkins approached me last year, he just had this title-VICE. We sat in a stairway at San Diego's Comic-Con and talked about our love of TV's The Shield, a brutally non-apologetic drama! Matt asked what I would do with VICE. My answer, "I want to mess people up."

Admit it. We're angry. Jealous. Disgusting. Perverted. We think we're good people. But really, stop lying. Please. You're embarrassing yourself. Now, imagine you had powers and were put in positions of authority. Scary? Right?

V.I.C.E. is the ultra-sapien FBI Unit. Super-powerful. But not necessarily noble. Not nice. Stressed out humans trying to do the best they can not to kill too many people. Trying to keep their desires under control. Trying to do the right thing. And mostly failing.

The thing I hope my daughter learns from this book is collaboration. We hit a snag in conceptualization. The uniforms didn't work. We debated. Emailed. Yelled. Then, I said one word to artist Tyler Kirkham: "Camouflage." Tyler smiled, which, if you've met Tyler is this boyish grin of pure enthusiasm. That was it. Problem solved. Next problem. Bring it on. There is nothing this team can't do. From Tyler's ridiculous, kinetic art, to Batt's detailed and emotional inks, to John Starr's sinful coloring…this book muscles.

Now that I think about it. I can't wait for my daughter to read this book. And I can't wait for you to read it too.

October. Count the days. It's coming faster than you think.

-Aron Coleite
