My appreciation of the four-color world of comics started one Saturday morning when my mom returned from a grocery store trip with a coverless issue of some Spider-Man adventure. This was just the right time to hit me with a comic as "Super Friends" had just ended and the television was turned off for the morning. I'm not sure what the Spider-Man issue was, as I was too naive to check the indicia and the issue has since disappeared in one of my many moves, but Spider-Man made an impression on me and comics made an impression on my wallet. Comics have been a mainstay of my public display of support of capitalism ever since.

Writing for CBR isn't my first journalistic gig within the world of comics. I've also written for Comicbloc.com (which started off as GeoffJohns.com) where my first ever interview was with George Perez! I've also written and designed the "Hawkman Companion" for TwoMorrows and have some other ideas for other writing projects at some point in the future. Some of those ideas might involve gorillas, or they might not. Most of those ideas certainly don't involve platypi. Thanks, Perry.

At my day job, I'm an Instructional Designer, developing training materials and curriculum for those who need them, even if they don't realize they do. I have a ridiculously supportive, amazingly talented and beautiful wife and I am lucky enough to be the father of three incredibly talented and awesomely amazing young ladies who each appreciate comics in their own way. In my spare time, when I'm not being a dad, coaching soccer, mowing the lawn (or shoveling the snow), reading and reviewing comics, driving to or from work and actually doing work, I sleep.

FIRST COMIC: An unspecificed coverless Spider-Man issue, but I have reason to believe it to be "Marvel Team-Up" #58. The first one I spent my hard-earned, fifty-cent allowance on was "Justice League of America" #192.

FAVORITE CHARACTER: Firestorm, Hawkman, Benjamin J. Grimm, Cliff Steele

Superman/Batman #60

Fri, May 22nd, 2009 | Category: Review

Yet another universal mash-up occurs in this title, except that's the title of the issue. This one takes the Titans and the Justice League and offers some interesting new characters and concepts.

Vigilante #6

Thu, May 21st, 2009 | Category: Review

Thank whichever deity you worship that this lame crossover event is finally over. What's more, the true resolution happens off panel. Save your money and read the review.

The Brave and the Bold #23

Thu, May 21st, 2009 | Category: Review

Two characters from disparate futures meet up in what should be an epic for the ages. Unfortunately, it has a little After School Special flavor baked into it.

Patricia Briggs' Mercy Thompson: Homecoming #3

Tue, May 19th, 2009 | Category: Review

Visually distinct from the two issues prior, this issue of "Mercy Thompson" is definitely carrying on the story those earlier issues started.

The Incredibles: Family Matters #2

Fusion #1

Thu, May 14th, 2009 | Category: Review

Unique. Singular. Like a snowflake. That's how this story starts out, hoping to fulfill its own prophecy. With some of the most popular characters from Top Cow and Marvel coming together, this story has potential.

R.E.B.E.L.S. #4

Palmiotti and Gray continue to deliver the goods to the western frontier. As new reader accessible as any book out there, this is one of the best comics you haven't picked up. Yet.

Ms. Marvel #38

Sun, May 10th, 2009 | Category: Review

Ms. Marvel does not appear in this book, unless you're talking about the "new" Ms. Marvel, formerly Moonstone.

Power Girl #1

Sun, May 10th, 2009 | Category: Review

For the first time ever, on any Earth, Power Girl gets her own ongoing series. This is the perfect jumping on point for any reader and should have been alongside "Blackest Night" on Free Comic Book Day.

Fin Fang Four Return #1

Thu, May 7th, 2009 | Category: Review

Fin Fang Foom and some other mega monsters of yesteryear find themselves dealing with some rather unfortunate circumstances, just for the amusement of the reader. Oh, and Wolverine only appears once.
