My appreciation of the four-color world of comics started one Saturday morning when my mom returned from a grocery store trip with a coverless issue of some Spider-Man adventure. This was just the right time to hit me with a comic as "Super Friends" had just ended and the television was turned off for the morning. I'm not sure what the Spider-Man issue was, as I was too naive to check the indicia and the issue has since disappeared in one of my many moves, but Spider-Man made an impression on me and comics made an impression on my wallet. Comics have been a mainstay of my public display of support of capitalism ever since.

Writing for CBR isn't my first journalistic gig within the world of comics. I've also written for Comicbloc.com (which started off as GeoffJohns.com) where my first ever interview was with George Perez! I've also written and designed the "Hawkman Companion" for TwoMorrows and have some other ideas for other writing projects at some point in the future. Some of those ideas might involve gorillas, or they might not. Most of those ideas certainly don't involve platypi. Thanks, Perry.

At my day job, I'm an Instructional Designer, developing training materials and curriculum for those who need them, even if they don't realize they do. I have a ridiculously supportive, amazingly talented and beautiful wife and I am lucky enough to be the father of three incredibly talented and awesomely amazing young ladies who each appreciate comics in their own way. In my spare time, when I'm not being a dad, coaching soccer, mowing the lawn (or shoveling the snow), reading and reviewing comics, driving to or from work and actually doing work, I sleep.

FIRST COMIC: An unspecificed coverless Spider-Man issue, but I have reason to believe it to be "Marvel Team-Up" #58. The first one I spent my hard-earned, fifty-cent allowance on was "Justice League of America" #192.

FAVORITE CHARACTER: Firestorm, Hawkman, Benjamin J. Grimm, Cliff Steele

Wonder Woman #30

Thu, March 26th, 2009 | Category: Review

"Rise of the Olympian" continues here with characters rising, falling, being thrown about, and maybe even dropped on their heads.

Proof #18

Wed, March 25th, 2009 | Category: Review

"Proof" follows the adventures of Bigfoot in 1850s London as he trails Spring-Heeled Jack. Believe me, it's even more interesting than that.

Avengers: The Initiative Featuring Reptil #1

Tue, March 24th, 2009 | Category: Review

Christos N. Gage chooses to introduce a character by forcing him to stand on his own two feet. There's no marquee superhero here to share the spotlight – just Reptil.

Potter's Field: Stone Cold #1

Sun, March 22nd, 2009 | Category: Review

Mark Waid continues to build universes over at Boom!! and "Potter's Field" is a little corner very much worth checking out.

Invincible #60

Thu, March 19th, 2009 | Category: Review

Even if the event of this book were just the cover, it would be a success. "Invincible" #60 has a lot of action packed inside that extra-wide cover.

Black Lightning: Year One #6

Thu, March 19th, 2009 | Category: Review

"Black Lightning: Year One" ends, just as you knew it would with this sixth (of six) issues. Van Meter and Hamner deliver a solid conclusion.

Vigilante #4

Wed, March 18th, 2009 | Category: Review

No one does a frenetic, energy-filled cover like Walt Simonson. If he'd only taken the virtual camera back a little on this one, it would have looked a lot different.

X-Force #13

Tue, March 17th, 2009 | Category: Review

"Prelude to War" in "X-Force" #13 features less of the prelude and more of the war this team has already been involved with.

Guardians of the Galaxy #11

Mon, March 16th, 2009 | Category: Review

A trip into one of the realms beyond reality finds Drax and Quasar fighting a fight against a most unexpected foe.

The Amazing Spider-Girl #30

Mon, March 16th, 2009 | Category: Review

"Amazing Spider-Girl" comes to an end once more, with DeFalco, Frenz and Buscema gathered for the party.

Hexed #3

Mon, March 16th, 2009 | Category: Review

This is not the issue to jump in with, but if you're silly enough to do so, you'll find a voyeuristic demon, a crash-course in driving, and one confident mystical cat-burglar.

Titans #11

Sun, March 15th, 2009 | Category: Review

A "day in the life" issue fills the gap from last issue's throwdown with the JLA and the big "Titan"-ic crossover looming next month.

Patricia Briggs' Mercy Thompson: Homecoming #2

Fri, March 13th, 2009 | Category: Review

Mercy Thompson's four-color floppy adventures continue in this issue. I'm not sure of the intended schedule, but this issue was well worth the four-month wait.

Young Avengers: Sidekicks

Fri, March 13th, 2009 | Category: Review

Sure, "Young Avengers" isn't a new title. You're right, the trade has been out a while, but it's being reviewed here and now. If you've wondered what all the hubbub is about, check this review out.

Super Human Resources #1

Thu, March 12th, 2009 | Category: Review

"Super Human Resources" follows the adventures of a completely ordinary, absolutely mundane temp who finds himself assigned to work at "Super Crises International" alongside analogs of virtually every comic character.

Marvel Apes: Speedball #1

Wed, March 11th, 2009 | Category: Review

No, seriously. It's Speedball. And he's a monkey. Maybe that's why Joe Quesada's least favorite character got his own one shot?

Batman: Battle for the Cowl #1

Wed, March 11th, 2009 | Category: Review

Gotham has missed her Dark Knight detective and protector, but this issue starts the story to put his replacement into position for the foreseeable future. Who will assume the Mantle of the Bat? The quest begins here.

Solomon Grundy #1

Sun, March 8th, 2009 | Category: Review

"Solomon Grundy" is born on Monday, but his comic was released this Wednesday and reviewed on Sunday.

Black Panther #2

Sun, March 8th, 2009 | Category: Review

Since Dr. Doom is on the cover, I think I can safely reveal that Doom attacked the Black Panther in the last issue. This leads to a new, female Black Panther, who still doesn't appear in this book.

Johnny Monster #1

Sat, March 7th, 2009 | Category: Review

"Johnny Monster" makes his debut with a self-titled three-issue mini. A monster hunter and teen heartthrob (their words, not mine), Johnny is saving us from those nasty monsters. Or is he?
