They’ve created some of the best and most acclaimed, award-winningest comic books and graphic novels in the history of the medium! Their work tops bestseller lists, is taught in Colleges and Universities, and is probably on Your Bookshelf! Join Chester Brown (Paying For It, Louis Riel), Seth (Palookaville, George Sprott), Adrian Tomine (Scenes from an Impending Marriage, Optic Nerve) and Chris Ware (Acme Novelty Library, Jimmy Corrigan: Happiest Boy on Earth) in a fantastic discussion of their lives and work, in the kick-off event for the 2011 Toronto Comic Arts Festival!
“The great thing about this event, is that in addition to being great cartoonists, all of these gentlemen are great friends as well,” enthused Festival sponsor Peter Birkemoe of The Beguiling. “I think there’s a real camaraderie amongst these cartoonists that will make for a great discussion. Comix creation is usually a very solitary pursuit—many long hours spent at the drafting board creating these masterpieces—and this discussion will be a chance for these cartoonists not only to catch up with each other personally, but dig into each others new work. Being friends and contemporaries, these gentlemen often have truly unique insights into one another’s work.”
The TCAF Friday Kick-Off Spectacular will feature an on-stage discussion by Brown, Seth, Tomine and Ware, followed by an audience Q&A and an autograph session featuring all 4 creators. It will take place on the second floor of the Toronto Reference Library, in the recently-opened Bram and Bluma Appel Salon. It will serve as the gala, opening-night kick-off for the highly anticipated 2011 Toronto Comic Arts Festival, running May 7th and 8th.
300 tickets, about 2/3s of the maximum capacity for this event, will be made available for “purchase” through Event Brite for folks anxious to get a confirmed seat for this star-studded presentation! But don’t fret, at least 150 spaces will be made available at a rush-line on the day of the event, so if you don’t get a ticket just visit the venue! The TCAF Friday Kick-Off Spectacular is free to attend.
A wide selection of books by Chester Brown, Seth, Adrian Tomine, and Chris Ware is currently available for sale at The Beguiling Books & Art in Toronto. A great selection of material will also be available for sale at the event itself.
