Disney to Reboot "The Rocketeer" With Black Female Lead
Start Time: 06:00PM End Time: 09:00PM
It’s Sin City meets Smallville as Catastrophic Comics’ Sparks returns, complete in one graphic novel. Illusive Comics & Games has partnered with the series' creators to debut the Sparks collection ahead of Amazon and other retailers, the night before the World Premiere of the major motion picture based on the comic.
Sparks movie stars William Katt (The Greatest American Hero, Perry Mason), Clancy Brown (Highlander, Buckaroo Banzai, The Shawshank Redemption, Spongebob Squarepants, Superman), and Chase Williamson (John Dies at the End) join series creator Christopher Folino and artist Tyler Endicott to sign copies of the graphic novel and meet the fans at Illusive Comics & Games in Santa Clara on Thursday, February 28, 2013 from 6 to 9 p.m.
Folino didn’t just write this intriguing superhero noir; for four years he has gathered funding and production staff to write and direct the film adaptation which will premiere at Cinequest 2013 at the California Theater on Friday, March 1st at 7 p.m. The film also stars Jake Busey (The Frighteners, Starship Troopers).
The first 50 fans at Illusive Comics & Games on Thursday night will get a copy of the original first issue signed by Katt. In addition, Folino will be giving away tickets to Friday night’s premiere.
Illusive Comics & Games store owner Anna Warren Cebrian jumped at the chance to bring the talent to her shop. Her friendship with Folino goes back to the beginnings of Catastrophic Comics, when her imprint, Illusive Arts, shared a booth at Comic-Con with Katt and Folino.
In addition, series editor and local writer Derek McCaw will be on hand, happy to see his friends’ project return at full speed, as both book and film. It was an extra thrill for it to premiere at Cinequest. “Chris is what Cinequest is all about,” said McCaw,” dedicated and uncompromising to his vision, and working hard to bring it to fruition.”
"Cinequest is one of the last film festivals for true indie filmmakers and it's only fitting that Sparks, which was self-financed, is playing there. It's an honor to be part of the Cinequest film festival,” stated Folino.
