TV, Comic Books
Start Time: 07:00PM End Time: 10:00PM
Celebrate 20 years of comics' favorite paranormal detective during Hellboy Day, March 22 from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Portland Things From Another World (TFAW)! This can't-miss event kicks off with a Q&A with Scott Allie, Hellboy editor for 20 years and writer of Abe Sapien; Dave Stewart, Eisner Award-winning Hellboy colorist; and Tyler Crook, Eisner Award-winning B.P.R.D. artist; a signing will follow. Attendees will enjoy Hellboy Day exclusives from Dark Horse Comics, raffle prizes--including items signed by Hellboy creator Mike Mignola--a photo op with "Hellboy" himself, portrayed by Kyle Yount, and free food and beer (21+ with valid ID).
Creator Mike Mignola debuted Hellboy, his wildly popular demon detective, just over 20 years ago through Dark Horse Comics. Mignola's unique blend of Lovecraftian influences, action-adventure, and humor--as well as his striking, unique art style--quickly made the series a success. Since then, the universe has expanded into additional titles like B.P.R.D., Abe Sapien, and more.
"If the readers hadn't reminded us the anniversary was coming, we would've just kept our heads down cranking out comics," said Dark Horse Editor-in-Chief Scott Allie. "Thanks to them, we've pulled together some good things for the anniversary, and I'm glad we're getting to do these Hellboy Day celebrations, where we'll get to spend the day face to face with the readers, all over the place--from England to Sao Paolo to Portland, Oregon, and I'm glad to be there with Tyler and Dave."
"In Hellboy, Mike Mignola has created a character--and an entire universe--that is compelling, unforgettable, and tons of fun," said TFAW Vice President Andrew McIntire. "We invite everyone to come out and make a toast to the big guy!"
A wide selection of Hellboy, B.P.R.D., and other Mignola titles will be available for sale, including Hellboy: The First 20 Years, a new hardcover containing never-before-seen art, including scans and raw sketches, as well as Mignola's best pieces from the last 20 years. Mark your calendars and get ready to celebrate March 22 at the Portland TFAW!
