Warner Bros.' "Aquaman" movie may have its Mera: Amber Heard is in "negotiations" to join the movie as Mera, the film's female lead role, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The character is slated to first appear in 2017's "Justice League" movie.
In DC Comics history, Mera is the superpowered queen of Atlantis and Aquaman's longtime love interest (and eventual wife). In the comics, Mera's able to control water and create solid constructs with it. The character was created by writer Jack Miller and artist Nick Cardy, and first appeared in 1963's "Aquaman" #11.
In 2015, Heard appeared in "The Danish Girl" and "Magic Mike XXL." Her other credits include 2014 action film "3 Days to Kill," 2011 Hunter S. Thompson adaptation "The Rum Diary" and 2008 comedy "Pineapple Express."
Directed by James Wan and starring Jason Momoa in the title role, "Aquaman" is currently scheduled for release on July 27, 2018. Writers David Leslie Johnson and Kurt Johnstad are concurrently working on separate "Aquaman" scripts.
"Justice League," directed by Zack Snyder, is scheduled for Nov. 17, 2017.
