With a new Batman about to swing into theaters as part of "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," some attention has turned back to the last man to don the cape and cowl. In a talk with Yahoo, Christian Bale revealed how he looks back on his stint as the Dark Knight, which lasted from 2005 to 2012 and spanned a trilogy of films directed by Christopher Nolan. It turns out Bale's not really that impressed with his take on Bruce Wayne.

"Batman is very very very dark, messed up character," said Bale. "But I found when I put on the suit, I just feel like a bloody idiot if I don't use this as a means of it's kind of it's his true monstrous self that he allows to come out in that moment."

While he may not be impressed with his performance, he does admire the work his co-star Heath Ledger put in as the Joker. “Heath turned up, and just kind of completely ruined all my plans,” Bale said. "Because I went, 'He’s so much more interesting than me and what I’m doing.’“

“I didn’t quite manage what I hoped I would through the trilogy,” added Bale. “Chris [Nolan] did, but my own sense of self is like, ‘I didn’t quite nail it.’”

But don't expect Bale to return to the role ever again. Even though he feels unsatisfied with his portrayal of Batman, he has no desire to give it another try. "Enough's enough, we did our thing and I've got nothing else to offer it."

Ben Affleck makes his debut as Batman in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," which opens on March 25.
