Marvel Comics' "Black Panther" #1 has already cracked the 300,000 mark in sales the publisher announced today at C2E2's retailer breakfast.

"To see "Black Panther" #1 reach 300,000K in sales is a testament to the vision of the creative team, and the excitement that greeted the announcement of the series," Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso told CBR News in a statement. "When fans see what Ta-Nehisi and Brian have planned for the first -- and best -- Black super hero, it's going to be the buzz book of the industry."

"The Black Panther I offer pulls from the archives of Marvel and the character’s own long history," Coates said in a recent interview, explaining how he's approaching the series. "But it also pulls from the very real history of society -- from the pre-colonial era of Africa, the peasant rebellions that wracked Europe toward the end of the Middle Ages, the American Civil War, the Arab Spring, and the rise of ISIS.

"I want this to be the best 'Black Panther' run there's been," Coates stated. "I want this to be one of the best runs that Marvel has ever done, and I want it to elevate the stature of the character."

"Black Panther" #1, by Ta-Nehisi Coates and Brian Stelfreeze, debuts April 6.
