After a stellar launch overseas, "Deadpool" opened in theaters across America on Thursday night and Friday morning. According to Deadline and Box Office Mojo, "Deadpool" pulled in a whopping $47.5 million, giving the film the rank of biggest Friday opening in February box office history.

"Fifty Shades of Grey" previously held the record of biggest Friday opening in February, but Ryan Reynolds' masked merc surpassed Christian Grey's box office record by 47%. With an opening like this, "Deadpool" is projected to bring in over $100 million this weekend, which would make it the most successful rated-R superhero film in history.
