Yesterday was a big day for both "Captain America: Civil War" and "Daredevil." The former released a new trailer and the latter held its red carpet premiere for season two in New York City. Both Marvel projects see the addition of two major characters to the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Spider-Man (Tom Holland) and Punisher (Jon Bernthal). It turns out that Holland and Bernthal have a history together -- and they even helped each other land their respective Marvel roles.

Bernthal shared the story with the Daily News, saying that he and Holland helped each other make audition tapes for Marvel while they were shooting the period drama "Pilgrimage" in Ireland.

“We were making tapes from Ireland in the process of getting him cast in Spider-Man and then he and I made a tape for the Punisher,” said Bernthal. “During this independent movie that we did in Ireland we were constantly making tapes for Marvel -- just acting together.” Bernthal added that the tapes "definitely do exist" but said that getting them from Marvel would be like "breaking into Fort Knox." Tom Holland did immortalize his friendship with Bernthal in a picture on Instagram.

Holland didn't just enlist the help of the future-Punisher to get the Spider-Man gig; he also called in a favor from his "In the Heart of the Sea" co-star Chris Hemsworth. Thor previously told the Daily News that he "called the guys at Marvel when they were casting [Spider-Man] and I heard he was in the final handful of guys and said, 'Look for what it's worth you're not going to meet a harder working more appreciative kind of guy,'"

Spider-Man debuts in "Captain America: Civil War" on May 6; Bernthal's Punisher appears in season two of "Daredevil," which arrives on Netflix on March 18.
