With a premise involving time travel, the CW's "Legends of Tomorrow" can travel to corners of the DC Universe that would be hard to squeeze into "Arrow" or "The Flash." One such era is that of the old west and, as revealed by Variety, "Legends'" time-hopping nature will allow the ragtag team to cross paths with Jonah Hex.

“Ever since we decided that ‘Legends’ would involve time travel, we were eager to do a story set in the Old West,” executive producer Marc Guggenheim told Variety. “But if you’re going to do a story set in the DC Universe version of the Old West, you simply must include Jonah Hex in it. We’re thrilled about bringing another well known, beloved DC character to television.”

As Jonah Hex's debut is not scheduled until the 11th episode of "Legends of Tomorrow's" debut season, no casting for the character has been announced.

As DC's premier Old West antihero, Jonah Hex has been the star of a number of long-running comics, most recently the New 52 title "All-Star Western." The character was created by John Albano and Tony DeZuniga and debuted in 1972's "All-Star Western" #10. Josh Brolin previously portrayed the character in a live-action feature film, which was released in 2010. The film failed to find an audience, only grossing $10.9 million domestically. Thomas Jane also voiced the character in the animated short "DC Showcase: Jonah Hex," which was paired with the 2010 animated feature "Batman: Under the Red Hood."

"Legends of Tomorrow" debuts on the CW on January 21.
