Almost forty years after her debut in the pages of Marvel UK's "Captain Britain," the telepathic/telekinetic ninja X-Man Psylocke is about to make her proper big screen debut in "X-Men: Apocalypse" (if you don't count her unnamed glorified cameo in 2006's "X-Men: The Last Stand," that is). The fact that she's portraying a character as well-known amongst X-Fans as Psylocke has not been lost on Olivia Munn, who has remained engaged with the audience through a series of behind-the-scenes posts detailing her martial arts training and swordplay skills. In a new interview with cnet, the actress revealed what she finds interesting about the purple-haired X-Man.

"I’ve loved Psylocke for so long," said Munn. "She’s a really, really strong badass female character in this comic book world where a lot of times the women don’t get to be strong and badass. You see a lot of superheroes [who] don’t always want to kill, and they’ll avoid it if they can. She’s never had a problem killing, and I like that she was the bad guy that had no problem being the bad guy. She’s telekinetic and telepathic so she can read your mind. She can create anything with her mind. To win any fights, she can just create a mountain and have it fall down on you, but she chooses to create a sword so she can kill up close and personal. I always thought that was really cool and badass."

While the comic book version of Psylocke has mostly walked on the side of the angels, "X-Men: Apocalypse's" version of the character will be one of titular villain Apocalypse's Four Horsemen (along with Magneto, Storm and Archangel). While we've yet to hear Munn speak as Psylocke in any of the trailers, the character did steal the film's Super Bowl spot with an impressive flip/psychic katana combo.

Directed by Bryan Singer and starring James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Oscar Isaac, Olivia Munn and more, "X-Men: Apocalypse" opens on May 27.
