SPOILER WARNING: This article contains major spoilers for "Escape from Earth-2," the latest episode of "The Flash."
In "Escape from Earth-2," the latest episode of "The Flash," Team Flash joined forces with Killer Frost to rescue Earth-1's Barry Allen from Zoom's clutches. The groups on both Earths managed to pull together to get Harrison Wells, Jesse, Barry and Cisco back in one piece -- but not everyone made it out whole.
Team Flash managed to get everyone across and close the breach for good, but Jay Garrick stood a little too close to the platform, which gave Zoom the opportunity to reach through, pierce Jay's chest with his arm and pull him back into through breach. Much to Caitlin's dismay, it appears as though Jay Garrick is dead, though nothing can be said for certain.
Barry and Jesse also managed to make contact with the man in the metal mask. Through a series of knocks, he was able to communicate with them and managed to spell one word: Jay. As soon as Barry revealed Jay Garrick was safe on Earth-1, the man in the metal mask became very upset and banged on the glass of his cell. A later scene showed a side-view of the man, revealing a shock of blond hair.
Though his identity was never unveiled, the clues seem to suggest the man in the mask is actually Jay Garrick. Zoom wanted to keep Barry in his lair in order to sap his speed, so it would make sense if he captured Jay and kept him alive for this same reason. However, that leaves a bigger question: who, then, is the man acting as Jay Garrick on Earth-1?
After all, when "Jay Garrick" arrived on Earth-1, he had seemingly lost his speed; he needs Caitlin's Velocity formulas in order to connect with the Speed Force. In fact, Caitlin perfects the formula in "Escape to Earth-2" with Velocity 9, which is known in the comics by the same name.
